Join us with Carl Hiaasen on March 4! manoj,   As a Friend of the Everglades, you know the power of people's voices — individually and collectively — to safeguard Florida's wilderness. It's the reason Marjory Stoneman Douglas founded our organization in 1969, and it's how we continue to have impact today.   So it's fitting that the theme of our biggest event of the year is "Be a Voice for the Everglades." You're invited to join us March 4 at The Biltmore in Miami for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Legacy Celebration — a lively lunchtime event featuring some of today's most compelling Everglades voices.    Author and journalist Carl Hiaasen will deliver the keynote speech. Bad Bill Alert: HB 789 promotes citizen intimidation

Email Rep. Cyndi Stevenson, ask her to keep HB 789 off her committee's agenda   Dear manoj,   The Florida Legislature is at it again.    House Bill 789 , filed by Rep. Toby Overdorf, is the latest in a slew of bad bills that aim to undercut citizens' rights. If passed, it would force anyone who challenges and loses a Florida Department of Environmental Protection or water management district decision to pay the other side's legal fees. It would intimidate citizens and effectively prevent them from filing a challenge, because they literally can't afford to lose.   Phone calls are the most powerful way to weigh in. Call Rep. Cindy Stevenson's office in Tallahassee at (850) 717-5018 and ask her NOT to put HB 789 on the agenda for the Water Quality, Supply, and Treatment Subcommittee. VIDEO: Wetlands and waterways on the chopping block this legislative session?

Friends of the Everglades LIVE recording available now!   Hi manoj,   Florida's 2024 legislative session began today in Tallahassee — marked by a flurry of bad bills that take aim at important Everglades issues like wetlands protections and growth management.     Today's livestream led us through the worst of the worst filed bills, highlighted key players to watch and reminded viewers of the importance of citizen participation. Legislative Accountability is vitally important to environmental protection and the future of Florida. At Friends of the Everglades, we work hard to help the public understand dense policy measures and how they impact both the natural world and the human environment. As session progresses, we'll keep our eyes trained closely on the legislation that poses the greatest threats, and we hope you'll follow along with us.   Thanks to everyone that tuned in with us today. You can review the current bills we're tracking in our Legislative P...
