Everglades voices unite: Carl Hiaasen, Betty Osceola & Louis Aguirre await you!

We're rallying around the theme "Be a Voice for the Everglades" at our upcoming Marjory Stoneman Douglas Legacy Celebration, scheduled for March 4 at The Biltmore Hotel. And we've lined up some seriously influential voices to inspire and educate YOU!

Author and journalist Carl Hiaasen will take the stage to deliver a keynote address that will leave you fired up and ready for action. His popular novels, known for their savage humor and razor-sharp wit, paint a picture of the wild (and often bizarre) physical and political landscape of the Sunshine State that we all know and love.

Plus, we're honoring the incredible Betty Osceola with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Defender of the Everglades Award. A proud member of the Panther Clan of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, Betty embodies the spirit of resilience and stewardship that honors the ways of her ancestors — living off the land and cherishing its abundant resources — as she raises awareness of environmental threats to the Everglades and mobilizes communities to take action.

And who better to keep the energy high than WPLG anchor and environmental champion Louis Aguirre, our emcee? A multiple Emmy-award winning journalist, and longtime and staunch defender of the planet, Louis brings awareness of environmental issues in South Florida with the purpose of seeking solutions to his role as the face of WPLG Local 10's station-wide campaign, Don't Trash Our Treasure.

Hi manoj, It's safe to say that we may all feel a bit of the 2024 legislative session PTSD that Gil Smart described today, but today's livestream discussion also outlined some bright spots to be proud of, as well as plenty of reasons to keep fighting.
